Anyone who knows me knows that I love plants. A few years ago my husband got me a plant of the month subscription, and our apartment quickly filled up with greenery throughout the windows and walls. I was sad when we moved and had to give up all of those plants, but was able to distribute them to family and friends, hoping that they would think of us while taking good care of them.

So it is no surprise that one of my favorite places in London has been the Colombia Road Flower Market.
Only open on Sundays, this road is lined with beautiful flowers, succulents, and plants of all sizes. I had been confused when I had seen people walking with huge plants almost the size of their body on the tube. But after coming here it was hard to walk away with anything less than that.

The market is only open until 2PM, and we got there in the afternoon, which was perfect because many of their items had been discounted even further.

We strolled down the road trying to find the perfect first plant for our new apartment. At the end of the road there was an open square that people gathered and listened to the live street performer.

We stopped and ordered a homemade Mexican chilli hot chocolate and listened to an 85 year old man sing some of Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits. Everyone was smiling as the sun was shining and music filled the air.
We made our way back to decide on a new plant, and picked out a bromeliad, a colourful plant to brighten up our new flat.
The Colombia Road Flower market is the perfect way to spend a heartwarming sunny Sunday morning.
