Lights out and away we go!!!

Anyone who knows Clay knows he is a huge Formula 1 fan. So when Christmas came around knowing we were living right next to Europe, a present was easy. We were going to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix!

We had general admission tickets for three days. It was a beautiful sunny weekend in Spain, which seems to be our favorite place to go since we have moved here.

Day one was practice- this was the least crowded day and we got to scope out where we wanted to watch the race on Sunday. After the race we stopped by some stands and picked up a couple of Ferrari shirts. Everyone is a Ferrari fan!!!

Day two was qualifying- The energy was electric… Especially because it was the home race for Fernando Alonso. The whole crowed would stand and cheer every single time he passed by on the track. After qualifying there was a dance party in one of the squares and the crowd was singing a song specifically written about Fernando on the top of their lungs.

Day three was raaaace day! We got there bright and early… An hour before the first race for formula 3 started, a whopping 7 hours before the F1 race started. And it was packed to the brim even at that hour. Luckily we found a great spot right by the front with a view of the TV so we could watch the whole race. The race itself was very straightforward, no crashes or red flags, but very exciting none the less!

Max Verstappen won… Shocker! After the race the crowd stormed the track and made their way to the podium to see the winners. Clay and I naturally had to join the fun! Clay was so excited to walk on the track. We got to stand on the starting line and walk underneath the lights.

We had one more day in Barcelona to explore the city outside of the racetrack. We started by going to Park Güell and admiring the unique ceramic and mosaic designed by Antoni Gaudi.

Then we made our way to the impressive Sagrada Familia. This is one of the most beautiful basilicas I have ever seen. Between the stunning stained glass and unique design representing nature, I was speechless as I admired the inside.

Throughout our trip we had amazing wine, tapas, and lots of sandwiches on the race days. Spain never seems to disappoint, and I know we will be back to explore another part of this beautiful country.
