Next stop: Dreamy Dubrovnik

One of the most amazing parts about living close to Europe is meeting up with friends during their adventures. Our next stop was to Dubrovnik, Croatia where we would meet up with one of my oldest and closest friends.

As we took a cab from the airport to our Airbnb, I knew we were in for a beautiful holiday. The drive itself was stunning and as we approached Dubrovnik the views were even more picturesque. The road we drove on followed Adriatic Sea and we admired the vibrant blue water from afar.

Our Airbnb looked over a beautiful view of clay colored red roofs. Clay and I walked to the water and watched a beautiful sunset before our friends arrived.

The next day we explored Old Town. The Old Town of Dubrovnik was completed in the 13th century and remains virtually unchanged to the present day. The city center is encapsulated by towering city walls, which no cars are allowed to drive through. Parts of Dubrovnik might be recognized by some as King’s Landing, where many scenes from Game of Thrones were shot. The walk through the medieval city was stunning. We wandered through quaint narrow streets and stumbled into sunlit marble-paved squares.

After lots of walking and stairs, we stopped for a drink at an outdoor bar that looked over the water. You literally had to walk through a hole in the wall to get to this unique outdoor spot buzzing with people who come to have a drink, swim, and even cliff jump. Clay and I mustered up the courage and took a plunge into Croatia’s beautiful blue water from the cliffs above.

We finished the day with a beautiful sunset picnic while laughing with old friends.

At the end of the night we had a cocktail at a bar set within a natural cave. It was so unique to have a drink among stalactites and stalagmites. It was amazing to experience yet another building that was set within the city’s beautiful natural landscape.

The following day we went on a small boat tour that took us to a several islands off the coast of Croatia. We navigated the waters to Croatia’s picturesque blue cave. We were able to snorkel, swim, and bask in the sun while admiring the crystal clear sea. I have never seen water so clear and breathtaking. We made our way to a few other nearby caves, varying in size and amount of light that came in. We laughed while exploring the nooks of each unique cave while swimming with the local fish.

The next stop on our boat tour was an island called Lopud- a beautiful sandy beach with a fun beach bar. A day on the water was the perfect way to enjoy Croatia’s coast and admire the beautiful landscape from a different perspective.

That night we went to a restaurant that had a beautiful panorama view of the city and stunning sights of the Adriatic Sea. After dinner we got to admire Dubrovnik by night and enjoyed our final evening in this amazing country. The twinkling lights were magical as they illuminated this stunning historic city by night.

Dubrovnik was up there with one of the most beautiful places we have visited thus far. We can’t wait until we can explore more of Croatia, and the entire Balkan region.
