Finding Friends in Florence

We were lucky to explore quite a few countries across Europe during our first summer away from the States. In June we flew out to Florence to meet some dear friends who were exploring Italy. We were lucky enough to celebrate their recent engagement and were so happy to see them when we arrived in beautiful Florence.

We spent the first day catching up, hearing about their recent adventures, eating pizza and pasta, and admiring the city’s stunning surroundings.

As we were walking home with bellies full of pasta and wine, we admired the cathedral by night.

The next morning we went to a pasta making class at a local vineyard 30 minutes outside of Florence. This was definitely the highlight of our trip. We learned about the vineyard’s various wines, were taught how to make pasta, and were stuffed to the brim with wine, pasta and cheese.

The hosts at the vineyard were incredibly welcoming and shared so much of their food and culture with us. It was an honour learning how to make pasta the same way they were taught by their grandmother.

The vineyard had a pony named Reuben who was fed the leftover pasta and lasagna… Reuben eats better than I do at home!

The pasta was delicious and inspired us to get a pasta maker for home so we could use our newest cooking skills. We headed back into Florence and ended the evening with a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant and some street music on the way home.

This trip was a very short but sweet one. The next day we had to already leave unfortunately. After grabbing some coffee we made our way to Florence’s most well known sandwich shop- All’Antico Vinaio. With sandwiches the size of our heads, we headed to the airport with full bellies and incredible memories.

Arrivederci Italia! I guarantee we will be back soon!
